Below more about the winemaker and his background:
Weingut Rappenhof
Weingut Rappenhof from Alsheim in Rheinhessen dates back to 1604. The vineyards of the Hirsch-Muth family are not only in Alsheim but also in Guntersblum, Ludwigshöhe, Dienheim, Oppenheim and Nierstein. According to the official classification, the wines are divided into different categories from low to high: Gutswein, Ortswein, Erste Lage and Grosse Lage. The latter can be compared with a Grand Cru in Burgundy, the Erste Lage with a Premier Cru, the Ortswein with a Gigondas from the Rhône and the Gutswein with a Beaujolais without the Villages designation.
I think it's a nice comparison. Everything immediately becomes a lot clearer. And these indications are on the Rappenhof cartouche and also on the back label. Rheinhessen is an area where the Main, the Nahe and the Selz flow into the Rhine. The Rappenhof vineyards are close to the Rhine. We chose 2 Gutsweinen, an Erste Lage and a Grosse Lage.
