Together with Trentino-Alto Adige, a climate that is more terrestrial than maritime. It is striking that there are 4 well-known lakes in this area: Lake Maggiore, Lake Como, Lake Garda and Lake Iseo. As far as I know all caused by volcanic activity.
The resulting differences in relief allow farmers to grow many grape varieties.

Cantina Bulgarini from the province of Brescia is the 3rd generation of wine growers of this family. They say they can make their wines special because of the clay subsoil due to the lakes and limestone hills present.
